By a decision signed on Monday by Juhan Parts, the Minister of Economic Affairs and Communications, a new application round for home grants for families with many children is opened today. The goal of the grant is to improve and modernise the living conditions of families with four or more children, and to decrease social ostracising.
„A good home is important for every Estonian. To achieve a growth in birth rate and positive growth of the Estonian population, good living conditions must be ensured for the children growing today,“ said Minister Juhan Parts, by whose initiative the issuing of home grants was started in year 2008. „For me, issuing of home grants for families with many children is very important, and I see that it is necessary to take a step forward and ensure the grant also by law, so that families with many children would have a feeling of security about their living conditions also in the future,“ Parts added. As a result of application rounds in years 2008 and 2009, 759 families have been supported with a total number of almost 4000 children. In addition to 119.2 million kroons issued in previous years, this year families will be supported with an additional 35 million kroons. By a maximum grant of 200,000 kroons per family, it is possible to decrease the repayment amount of the main part of housing loan, purchase living premises, build, reconstruct, renovate or expand living premises, construct, replace or change technical systems or network in living premises. Allocation of the grant takes place through Foundation KredEx, who shall accept applications from April 28th to May 31st, 2010.
