336 families with many children will get a grant to improve their housing conditions

24.04.2009

In 2009 the Ministry of Economic Affairs and Communications allocated additional 46.3 million kroons (incl. the income tax) out of state budget funds for KredEx as a grant for families with many children to improve their housing conditions.

Due to these new funds the applications of 336 families with the total of 1,471 children could be acceded. The average sum of a grant is 98,000 kroons. The biggest number of applications was acceded in 2009 in Harju County (42 applications), following Pärnumaa (34) and Tartumaa (31).
The aapplication round of 2008 brought in almost three times more applications than there were resources and due to that a new round was not proclaimed. According to the directive of the Minister of Economic Affairs and Communications the applications that were not satisfied in 2008 will be satisfied in the top ranking order as long as there are sufficient funds.

Due to the limited amount of resources the maximum sum of the grant was decreased with the directive of the Minister of Economic Affairs and Communications for families with at least 4 children to 100,000 kroons and for families with 8 or more children to 200,000 kroons. In 2008 the corresponding sums were 160,000 kroons and 320,000 kroons.

In 2006 and 2007 the taxable income of the grant receiver (excl. parental benefit) per one family member was 1,242 kroons/month and they live together with 4.4 children in a house with 3.6 rooms, the total area of which is 90.6 m2. Among the grant receivers were also 22 families, whose average taxable income (excl. parental benefit) in 2006 and 2007 was 0 kroons. In the families with the biggest number of children (in Pärnumaa and Valga town) there are 9 children up to the age of 19 years.

In the course of processing the applications cases of fraud attempts have occurred in connection with state grants – false data has been provided or there have been attempts to acquire the housing from close relatives, etc. The grant receivers are constantly monitored and such cases turn up during processing and check-ups.

All the applicants who received a positive response will get the copy of the resolution in writing during this day. The families who receive the letter will have to contact KredEx in order to enter into contract.

KredEx started the receipt of applications for housing grants for the families with many children from July 1st, 2008. The national non-returnable grant to improve the housing conditions is intended for the families of many children, where there are at least four up to 19-year-old children and whose income during the past 2 years per one family member has been up to 6,000 kroons/month according to the income statement. As a grant, the state finances part of the works done or the price of the housing acquired. In the application round of 2008 there were 423 families with many children who received grants in the total amount of 70.2 million kroons.
