Since the beginning of October, residents of areas of cultural and environmental value can obtain the information regarding their residential area on the web page www.miljooala.eu. In order to notify the residents of residential areas of cultural and environmental value and of renovation possibilities of their houses, the Credit and Export Guarantee Fund KredEx organised procurement for creation and technical management of a homepage targeted for residents of areas of cultural and environmental value as well as for acquiring and managing substantive information. The procurement was won by PLC Heritage Conservation Society (content management) and PLC Bestit (technical solutions). The aim for the creation of the homepage is to enhance awareness of the people living in areas of cultural and environmental value of the value of their surroundings, building heritage belonging to them, and their living environment as well as of restoration and sustainable renovation; gather information about different best examples of preservation of areas of cultural and environmental value – examples of dwellings, calm traffic areas and public areas from all Estonia and give the people an opportunity to use a forum for discussing different issues related to areas of cultural and environmental value. In legislative terms, a residential area of cultural and environmental values is an area where specific planning and construction regulations - proceeding from the area’s historic-cultural specific character and necessity to preserve - have been enacted. By its nature, an area of cultural and environmental values is a clearly and specifically distinguishing cultural environment, covering dwelling areas created and formed by people. Such areas include cultural, historical and social values, the preservation of which is important in the terms of culture as well as of national or local identity. Currently the homepage is in Estonian only; it will be in Russian and English in the near future as well. Since 2007, the KredEx has supported the renovation of apartment buildings within areas of cultural and environmental value by nearly EEK 16 million.
