Ministry of Economic Affairs and Communications: Press Release August 11, 2008
Families with four children and more can continually from KredEx Foundation apply for grant to improve their living conditions, the application session will last until the end of September.
On Saturday August 9, Eesti Päevaleht daily claimed delusively in its article that the housing grant project meant for families with many children has been cut off. It is not true – for 2008, Kredex has been allocated EEK 50 million from the state budget which will be distributed for home obtainment or repair to families with many children living in shabby and tight conditions. At present, an application session has been declared by Kredex, families can apply for grants until the end of September. As of today, Kredex has received 215 applications; they will be reviewed by inspection board after expiry of the term.
Ministry of Economic Affairs and Communications developed the grant meant for living conditions improvement of families with many children on the basis of coalition agreement, pursuant to which EEK 50 million is annually allocated from the state budget for that purpose. Negotiations over the 2009 state budget are pending.
Home grant is meant for families consisting of at least four children under 19 years and where the last two years taxable monthly income per family member has been under EEK 6000. Lump-sum grant can be applied for housing obtainment, construction or reconstruction. Moreover, support can be applied for principal amount repayment of housing loan as well as for self-financing, establishing and replacing technical systems of a housing and drafting of a building design. Maximum single project grant amount is up to EEK 160,000 and in case of a family with eight children and more - up to EEK 320,000.
From a survey on coping of families with many children, conducted in 2007, it became evident that lack of premises and bad living conditions are among the factors preventing family expansion most. Families need support in enlarging and repairing dwellings, improving washing facilities and developing means of communications.
